  I am Canadian living in Calgary, Canada’s energy capital. For a number of years, Stanley Korshak was one of the online stores I patronised. I bought some two dozen Kiton shirts from them, and many more Isaia shirts and dress pants. (Yes, I love shirts and shoes.) I purchased my first pair of Bontoni shoes from Stanley Korshak, price US$1295. The transaction was smooth. The store had my credit card on file. All I had to do was email my request and the purchase would be in the mail in a day or two. Then, Stanley Korshak partnered with PayPal. All international buyers had to go through PayPal. PayPal charges foreign buyers a minimum of 3% for the service, which given PayPal’s underhanded practice is only poised to grow. PayPal calls it ‘currency conversion fee’, and PayPal doesn’t allow you to be billed in the store’s currency. Many credit card companies charge up to 2.5% fee for currency conversion. Like a growing number of international shoppers, I use a credit card that doesn’t charge a penny; every cent that PayPal charges me is expense that I don’t have to incur. To give you an idea, if PayPal had processed the purchase of that Bontoni shoe, the company would have made U.S. $38.83 from me on that single transaction! I shop from Amsterdam to Zürich, and I know there are many honorable credit card processing companies out there. Why Stanley Korshak decided to use PayPal is baffling to me. The store certainly lost me as a customer, because of their choice.
